Temporary Pedestrian Access Restored to Oxbow Park and Preserve

Public access to Oxbow Park and Preserve was reopened on Friday, May 22. This temporary pedestrian access is located at the north end of Oxbow Park on Animas View Drive. Do not enter through the construction entrance. Oxbow Park is currently under construction and is an active construction zone. It is important to stay on the provided access trail and outside of the construction zone to avoid construction personnel, equipment and activities. This temporary access may be periodically and unexpectedly closed for necessary construction activities.

There is no public access to the Animas River via East 36th Street or Silverton Street. Trespassing across private property is unlawful.

Parks and Recreation Facility Closures

As a proactive mitigation effort, the City of Durango is coordinating with San Juan Basin Public Health and La Plata County to take measures to ensure our staff and community members are not exposed to or contributing to the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19).  For more details,

  • Durango Community Recreation Center
  • Chapman Hill
  • Durango Gymnastics
  • City park playgrounds and picnic areas (shelters)
  • School District 9R playgrounds

Skate Park at Schneider Park has Re-opened with the following conditions:

  • 10 Skaters Maximum
  • Must Observe the Stay 6 Feet Apart Advisory
  • Wear Face Coverings when unable to maintain safe social distancing

Park Restrooms have Re-opened.  

Restrooms are sanitized once a day.  Please follow these guidelines:

  • Must Observe the Stay 6 Feet Apart Advisory
  • Wear Face Coverings
  • Bring Your Own Hand Sanitizer
