2021 Multimodal Transportation Plan Update
The city of Durango is gathering community feedback in 2021 as part of the process to update the Multimodal Transportation Plan in 2022. Outreach will include neighborhood meetings for seven zones or areas in Durango, focused meetings with underrepresented populations, tours, school outreach, event booths and videos.
Residents also can share input and ideas on how multimodal transportation could be safer and more equitable in the city using the interactive Multimodal Ideas Map below.

What is a Multimodal Transportation Plan?
There have been multiple improvement success stories since the last plan update, as projects are implemented and the vision of the plan is brought to life. You may have noticed some of the following improvements:
- The Needham Connect Phase II Project was completed on Columbine Drive, improving sidewalks, installing ADA-compliant curb ramps and curb extensions to improve pedestrian and bicyclist safety near Needham Elementary.
- Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons were installed to increase pedestrian safety at the 25th St and E 2nd Ave intersection and at the Horse Gulch intersection at 3rd St and 8th Ave.
- Bike lanes were added on Junction St from Miller Middle School to the city limits at Junction Ln.
Why an update in 2021?
2016 Multimodal Transportation Plan

The 2016 Multimodal Transportation Plan update was adopted by City Council on March 7, 2017 after a year of outreach, including a kickoff meeting and 12 additional public meetings. In addition to public meetings, a Virtual City Hall survey was used for a month to collect public comment. The survey garnered 207 visitors and 159 responses. The final document was updated based on feedback from City Council during the draft plan period and the City Council Study Session on December 13, 2016. The adopted 2016 Multimodal Transportation Plan Update was incorporated as an amendment to the 2012 Multi Modal Transportation Master Plan, which is an amendment to the City's 2007 Comprehensive Plan
The Plan prioritized over 450 projects, with a grand total project cost of over $160 million. The following infographic provides a snapshot of the 2016 plan update.
