Fanto Park  was named for Rose Fanto, an influential tavern owner and a generous supporter of charities. Outside of Animas City, it is the oldest park in Durango and the inspiration for the name of Park Elementary School.

Fanto Park is 2.98 acres that is organically managed, and includes a large grass area, swing-set and playground equipment and is open to the public when school activities are not happening. 

Contrary to popular belief, this is not an off-leash dog area.
