The Lion's Den sits atop of a ridge with spectacular views overlooking Durango and the La Plata Mountains. There is a closed gate to the driveway that leads up to the Lion's Den shelter that can be unlocked with a park permit for its use. The shelter and a dirt parking lot sit on the apex of the 10.5 acres. Be sure to check out this popular location for family reunions, weddings, and receptions.
Additional Information
Accessibility:
Individuals with limited mobility will require assistance to access the pavilion and restrooms. Contact the Parks and Recreation Department at (970) 375-7321 for more information and to discuss accessibility issues. There is some parking along road and limited parking above next to the shelter.
Picnic Tables:
Lion's Den has four picnic tables that sit six people each. The tables are locked down, but can be unlocked for moving when a park permit is acquired. The park applicant is responsible for moving the tables back to their original places.
