Police Recover Stolen Bike

Keeping Durango Safe

While citizens go about their day, Durango Police officers work hard to keep our community safe.

On October 25, Officer Rouanzoin responded to a report of a high-end mountain bike stolen from a garage on East 5th Avenue. While on patrol the next day, Rouanzoin witnessed a disturbance at 1815 Eastlawn. While investigating, Officer Rouanzoin noticed a mountain bike similar to the one stolen the day before. He confirmed it was the same bike and arrested 60-year-old David Becak for theft and possession of a controlled substance.

A search warrant was issued for the residence and executed. Another stolen bike was recovered as well as other stolen property and drugs. Officer Rouanzoin contacted the owner of the bike and reunited him with his property.

Did you know you can use the Police Department's online reporting service to report property damage, lost property or theft? You may also call non-emergency dispatch at (970) 385-2900. For emergencies, please dial 9-1-1.
