-The Durango-La Plata County Airport received the airport project of the year from the Colorado Asphalt Pavement Association for the DRO Runway 3-21 rehabilitation project completed in 2022. 

-- March, United Airlines announced it will begin flying an Airbus A319  in March between Denver International Airport (DEN) and Durango-La Plata County Airport (DRO), which will be the largest commercial aircraft currently servicing DRO.

A land donation of 49 acres adjacent to the Oxbow Preserve was accepted at the second meeting in February. This property provides an opportunity to expand wildlife habitat preservation and Animas River watershed protection and public enjoyment, as well as a potential expansion of the Animas River Trail.

A second bulk-water filling station was installed at 550 South Camino del Rio, just south of the Animas Auto Spa.. Either an Online Bulk Filling Station Application form must be completed before using the station, or a physical Application Form must be first be submitted. Applications are also available at the Durango City Hall cashier window and the Durango Transit Center cashier window. Email completed applications to customerservice@durangogov.org.

-The city’s partner that will convert the Best Western Motel into affordable housing has purchased the property. TWG Development, LLC, will rehabilitate the existing 72-room motel at 21382 U.S. Highway 160 and construct 48 new units, resulting in a 120-unit vibrant affordable housing apartment community called Residences at Durango. The development will serve households earning 30% to 60% of the Area Median Income.

-The state Department of Local Affairs awarded the City of Durango $120,000 to promote innovative solutions for the development of affordable housing. The money will be used to modernize and improve the city’s Fair Share Ordinance and administration of the program, which includes a housing feasibility study and other housing program policy work.

The Durango Police Department announced that free steering-wheel locks were available to city residents who own some of the most frequently stolen vehicles through a partnership between the DPD and Hyundai USA.

In February 1991, during the early days of recycling in Durango, The Durango Herald reported on the efforts of paper boy Bryan Todd to clean up the plastic bags that the newspapers were delivered in. The headline read “Recycling is Here to Stay,” and so it has. Nowadays the City of Durango is in the middle of another step forward in sustainability, through its partnership with Table to Farm Compost
