With winter quickly approaching, crews at Chapman Hill have been out making snow to get the ski hill open as soon as possible. Stay tuned to for the opening date.
Throughout the month of November Durango Parks and Recreation has invited residents to the Lake Nighthorse for free Kokanee salmon.

City of Durango residents headed to City Hall can now expedite their experience by using the city’s new interactive touch-screen kiosk.
The kiosk, which launched earlier this month will allow resident to apply for a job; apply for a business license; make payments; file an open records request; and search city records, among other services.
The City of Durango’s new Open Records Request system allows city staff to cut the time fulfilling a record request from approximately an hour to 15 or 20 minutes. A video explaining how the new records request system was recently released on the city’s YouTube channel.

Earlier this month the city of Durango was recognized by the group Eco-Cycle for its residential and commercial recycling efforts. According to Eco-Cycle the city has a recycling and compost rate of 37%. Durango is constantly working to improve sustainability, and is currently working with Table to Farm Composting to provide three months of free composting to residents who take part in Table to Farm's market study. In order to receive the free service, those who are interested must sign up before the end of November.

The city has begun the design process for its Downtown's Next Step pedestrian improvement project. The vision behind the developing design comes from the insight of 2,203 responses through 2 surveys, an online design review that received 58 comments, and 19 Business Improvement District and City led public meetings.

The city of Durango, the Durango Fire Protection District, and the Durango Police Department held the first public meeting regarding the River City Hall Project on Nov. 10, from 5:30 p.m. to 7p.m. at the Power House Science Center, 1333 Camino Del Rio. Visit the project's website to offer feedback.

Thirty years ago this November the city of Durango hosted stunt crews for the blockbuster action film "Cliffhanger." the 42 person crew were stayed in the area while filming aerial stunts for the movie. According to the article from 1992, the stunts filmed involved free falling with hidden parachutes.
