City to hold neighborhood meeting on speeds and safety for Junction Street

JuctionSt

Durango, CO: The City of Durango is launching the Junction Street Traffic Calming Design Project with a neighborhood meeting on Oct. 26, at 5 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, located at 2611 Junction Street, to hear from the neighborhood about their safety concerns on the corridor and learn their vision for Junction Street. The project scope includes traffic calming, pedestrian and bicycle facility improvements along Junction Street from West Third Avenue to County Road 204 or Dalla Mountain Park.

“The city has heard from Junction Street residents over the past few years about speeding and other safety concerns. The Multimodal Advisory Board recommended the project for prioritization in 2022 in response to those concerns,” said Devin King, multimodal manager for the city. “In a shift from previous projects, city staff are excited about engaging the neighborhood to hear their vision for the corridor before any design work begins.”

The neighborhood meeting on Oct. 26, will include interactive boards and maps for attendees to draw and write on to provide feedback. A brief presentation will start at 5:30 p.m. and there will be an opportunity for questions before breaking out into the interactive and engaging open house. Activities for kids will be provided along with light refreshments for all attendees.

Funding for this design project comes from the 2015 Half Cent Sales and Use Tax. For more information, call (970) 375-4955 or visit the city’s website.
