No Household Hazardous Waste collection event in 2023

No HHW_event

Durango, CO: The Household Hazardous Waste event is a service co-hosted by La Plata County and the City of Durango that has historically been offered every other year, and since it was held in 2022 will not be held in 2023.

The program is funded through joint sales tax, and if community members feel this event should occur every year, they are encouraged to contact City Councilors and County Commissioners to share that feedback and inform future budgeting discussions.

An unforeseen issue resulted in the City’s website displaying an out-of-date page that referenced the 2022 event which may have caused some confusion to residents.

The 2022 event was a success and saw over 700 attendees and collected 85,000 lbs. of waste.

If you’re unsure of how to dispose of certain household items, please check pout the city’s “What Goes Where?” Wizard tool to search for disposal options.

The City’s annual Fall Cleanup is still scheduled to begin Oct. 2.
