Durango, CO: The city is asking community members to submit an art design for the center of a proposed mini roundabout at East 3rd Avenue and 32nd Street as part of the 32nd Street Traffic Calming Design Project.
The contest is open from Nov. 17 – Dec. 8. Further information regarding the art contest can be found here.
“The 32nd Street Traffic Calming Design Project finished up design earlier in 2023,” said Devin King, multimodal manager for the city. “The final piece of the design is to create artwork for the interior circle of the mini roundabout proposed at East 3rd Avenue and 32nd Street. This artwork is key for differentiating the mini roundabout from the rest of the roadway and giving it character.”

Art designs need to follow submittal requirements and design aspects outlined in the application here. Selection of the winning art design will be made based on technical feasibility and design by a selection committee comprising city staff, project consultants, the Durango Creative District, and the Creative Economy Commission. The winning art design is anticipated to be announced in mid-January 2024. Construction of the 32nd Street Traffic Calming Desing Project is anticipated to begin in 2025.
Funding for this design project comes from the 2015 Half Cent Sales and Use Tax. For more information, call (970) 375-4955 or visit the city’s website.
