Devon Schmidt takes helm as city's new Chief Financial Officer

Devon Schmidt 2

Durango, CO:  Devon Schmidt steps into her role as the official chief financial officer for the City of Durango, after council approved her appointment at Tuesday night's meeting.

“The city of Durango is fortunate to be able to promote from within,” said City Manager José  Madrigal. “Devon is the fourth graduate from Fort Lewis College on our executive team and this is the ninth promotion to our executive team from within the city organization, which translates to 70% of our executive team being promoted internally.”

Schmidt has been with the City of Durango since September 2019. She has served in various roles, such as grants contract manager, interim finance director, assistant finance director, budget and strategic planning officer, and assistant and acting chief financial officer. Schmidt has her bachelor’s degree in business administration from Fort Lewis College and her master’s degree in management from Colorado State University.

Schmidt has completed Malcolm Baldrige Examiner training, is working on her Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, and is completing her Government Finance Officer Association Certified Public Finance Officer certification.

Before working for the City of Durango, she worked for La Plata County and in finance for the railroad industry.
