City residents can apply for food, utility refunds

Durango, CO: City residents with a total household income no greater than 50% of the Area Median Family Income for La Plata County can apply for the Food Tax Rebate Program and the Utility Refund Program  starting Monday, Feb. 13. 

The rebate and refund amounts are determined by family size, as published by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for 2022.

To qualify for the Food Tax Rebate Program

  • Only residents who lived within the city limits for the full 12 months of 2022 are eligible to apply. 
  • La Plata County residents living outside city limits are not eligible. 
  • The applicant must apply for all family members within the household and must identify all family members and their related income.
  • Applicants must meet all program requirements in the application.

To qualify for the Utility Refund Program

  • Only residents who owned and occupied a home within Durango city limits, received city of Durango utility services, and resided in that home on Dec. 31 and for at least 10 months during 2022 are eligible to apply.
  • The applicant must apply for all family members within the household and must list all family members and their income, if applicable. 
  • To apply for the refund, you must meet all program requirements in the application.

Applications for both programs are available at Durango City Hall located at 949 East Second Ave., the Durango Regional Transit Center located at 250 West Eight St., and the Durango – La Plata Senior Center located at 2424 Main Ave.  The applications are also available on the city’s website at DurangoGov.org/Rebates.  All forms and supporting documents must be submitted by July 7, 2023.
