Durango, CO: Drilling and boring work to determine the soil and subgrade conditions under Main Avenue is scheduled for downtown today, Feb. 8, through Friday, as part of the initial engineering design phase for Downtown's Next Step project.
Work will take place along East Fifth Avenue to College Drive and College Drive to East 14th Street along Main Avenue. This initial engineering design phase requires extensive site analysis and surveying to paint the full picture of existing conditions on downtown Main Avenue. The city’s contractor and their subcontractors have completed much of this assessment work over the past few months. Much of this work needs to be conducted when the road and sidewalk is free of snow, which limits when work can be done.
To minimize impacts to parking Downtown, the contractor will place cones on sections of Main Avenue and remove them once they are finished.
After the site analysis and surveying of Main Avenue is completed, the project team will determine how many and which blocks will be fully designed in this first phase. It is anticipated that these blocks will be determined in March. The community can expect public outreach regarding the design in early spring of this year.
Please feel free to contact the Multimodal Division at (970) 375-4955 with any concerns or questions regarding the project.
