Durango, CO: At a special meeting Monday morning Durango City Council voted to enter into an agreement with Bill Tuthill of WAT Legal to take on the role of interim city attorney.
“I thank Mr. Tuthill for being available and willing to help” said councilor Melissa Youssef. “I look forward to working with him. “
Tuthill will serve the city a minimum of 30 hours a week at a flat rate of $18,000 a month as the city continues its search for someone to fill the position permanently. The contract with Tuthill will automatically terminate once a new city attorney is appointed.
“It’s going to be an adventure,” Tuthill said. “Thank you for appointing me as the interim city attorney.”
Tuthill brings years of experience in Colorado to the interim role, including working as the primary litigator and attorney for Jefferson County for 15 years, 13 years as the city and county attorney for Broomfield, and most recently serving an interim role as city attorney for the city of Thornton.
Tuthill will be in Durango to meet council in person Tuesday at the council’s Jan. 17 meeting.
