Regardless of the weather, Durango Transit drivers make sure hundreds of thousands of customers get where they need to be each year. The City of Durango is happy to celebrate their hard work during National Transit Driver Appreciation Day on March 18.
In 2021, Durango Transit drivers provided 245,000 rides and drove more than 407,000 miles. Seven days per week, whether the sun shines or temperatures dip below zero, Durango’s transit drivers operate their routes, help riders with directions, check fares and remember requests. They manage all of this while safely operating large vehicles through tight roadways, unpredictable traffic and ever-changing road conditions.
Transit drivers have received many comments about their impact on passengers’ lives. “I have ridden public transit all over the US and Durango Transit is the best. Thank you for getting me where I need to be,” one passenger wrote.
One frequent rider commented that Durango Transit drivers are like family.
Durango would like to recognize the following drivers for their accident-free, safe driving miles:
More than 100,000 miles:
- Leonard Graham
- David Robillard
- Bill Hallock
More than 50,000 miles:
- Steve Jackson
- Will Hull
- Clyde Davies
- Timothy Bryan
More than 20,000 miles:
- Robert Moore
- Brett Willis
- Mike Heffernan
- Michael Iverson
- Randy Scott
- Thomas Richards
- Ken Leonardo
The City is grateful for Durango Transit drivers’ hard work and dedication to passengers and to the community. Passengers are welcome to join the City in celebrating Durango Transit Appreciation Day on March 18 by sending a note of thanks to transit@durangogov.org
