[ARCHIVED] Durango Transit to expand Service to west Hwy. 160 starting March 1

02-18-22 Hwy. 160 Service starts March 1

Durango Transit will expand service to include U.S. Highway 160 West beginning March 1. The route will operate 7 days a week, every 30 minutes from 7:05 a.m. to 8:35 p.m.

“We are thrilled to finally expand transit service to Highway 160,” said Transportation Director Sarah Hill. “Many residents along the corridor have faced a critical lack of transportation options for years and we are happy to be able to provide them with a reliable and safe service again.”

The U.S. Highway 160 route was eliminated in 2018 due to budget cuts. Funding was dedicated to expand transit service last year, and reinstating the U.S. Highway 160 route west of Durango was a priority because of community need.

Expansion to U.S. Highway 160 was delayed, most recently, because of significant labor shortages. Durango Transit offered retention and recruitment bonuses to transit operators, earlier this year, using COVID-relief funding for transit. The additional staff the transit department was able to recruit, allowed Durango Transit to expand to better meet the transportation needs of the community.

The route will serve 14 new transit stops, including Manna Soup Kitchen, the Tech Center and many residential areas. Stop times are listed below:
