The Durango Parks and Recreation Department is working with Durango Fire Protection District (DFPD) and Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC) to complete a controlled burn of slash piles in Dalla Mountain Park and Overend Mountain Park. Burning is scheduled to occur between Thursday, Feb. 3 and the end of February, weather permitting.
The goal of this maintenance project is to decrease wildfire risk by burning the slash piles from previous fire mitigation efforts. This work will occur throughout the interior of Dalla Mountain Park and at the north end of Overend Mountain Park. Both areas will remain open to the public, however users should be aware that DFPD and DFPC staff and vehicles will be in the area.
Prescribed fire smoke may affect your health. For more information, please go to: https://cdphe.colorado.gov/indoor-air-quality/wood-smoke-and-health
Smoke and fire may be visible for several days after completion of this project. DFPD and DFPC along with Parks and Recreation Department staff will be monitoring this area daily. Thank you for your understanding.
