City Council recognizes police officers, discusses sewer base rate increase

Meeting Summary Image

Durango City Council kicked off its first regular meeting of the year on Tuesday by recognizing Durango Police officers involved in the recent lockdown of Fort Lewis College following an online gun threat. Officers located the suspect and supported Fort Lewis College police and the FBI in resolving the situation. Four of the six officers involved in the incident attended the meeting and were praised for their work.

During the meeting, council also received a positive third quarter update on progress toward goals in the city’s strategic plan.

There was no public comment during the public hearing considering a 3% increase in the base rate of sewer service. Councilor Bosmans raised questions about the fund balance, which staff said they would discuss further at the Jan. 18 meeting when the rate increase ordinance will be up for the second and final reading.

During reports and actions, councilors were updated on the high number of COVID cases circulating in the community.

The next City Council study session will be Tuesday, Jan. 18 at 2:15 p.m. followed by the next regular council meeting at 5:30 p.m. Find meeting agendas at
