The City of Durango has begun the public engagement process for Downtown’s Next Step, an effort to shape a renewed vision for the look and feel of Downtown Durango. The Community Development Department is leading phase one of the project, which will engage the public in conversations about the re-design of the streetscape and public spaces along Main Avenue between 5th and 14th streets.
The community is invited to complete an online questionnaire to help the city understand how residents and visitors currently use Downtown Main and what the priorities should be when designing improvements.
The project team will use results of the questionnaire and discussions with a stakeholder group and the Downtown Business Improvement District (BID) to form a conceptual design of Downtown Main Avenue. This effort will consider all elements of Downtown Main from building face to building face. This includes patios, sidewalks, street trees and other landscaping, bicycle facilities, vehicle lanes and parking crosswalks.
The questionnaire is available at DurangoGov.org/VCH. It will be open through Jan. 7. Additional feedback opportunities are anticipated for February and March of 2022. For more information about the project, visit DurangoGov.org/DowntownMain
