[ARCHIVED] Animas River Trail improvements Rank Park to Demon Bridge

10-12-21 ARTbyRankParkNewsFlash

A resurfacing project on the Animas River Trail between Rank Park and Demon Bridge started Oct. 12. Rank Park is just north of Junction Creek and Demon Bridge crosses the river just north of Durango High School.

The project will begin with tree pruning and installation of a temporary path next to the existing trail. This will be followed by removal of the current asphalt trail and installation of the concrete path in its place.

Goff Engineering is finalizing the design for the drainage around the wetland area which, when complete, will provide adequate drainage beneath the path.

“The path will have a smooth surface and will stay dry in the summer and ice-free in the winter,” said Ture Nycum, director of parks and recreation.

The entire project is expected to take 8 to 10 weeks, with an anticipated completion in mid-December.
