The Durango Public Library Advisory Board will honor 2021 Library Community Champions Marcia Clouser and Corrie McCarthy at a reception Thursday, Sept. 23 at 3 p.m. at the Durango Public Library, 1900 East 3rd Avenue. The event is free and open to the public.
Recognizing that the success of any public library is enhanced and sustained by dedicated citizens, the Durango Public Library Advisory Board singles out individuals for appreciation through its Library Community Champion initiative. The distinction honors individuals’ achievement on behalf of the library and, in turn, the community.
The board selected Marcia Clouser and Corrie McCarthy for their ability to make the library an innovative and welcoming place for everyone. Marcia has been a longtime Friends of the Library board member and is currently a Friends’ bookstore volunteer. Corrie is the manager of Common Grounds Café, the library’s in-house coffee shop that teaches employable skills to students with disabilities.
"The volunteerism and service that people like Marcia and Corrie represent in this award contributes to making our library so exceptional,” said Library Advisory Board chair William LeMaire.
Clouser and McCarthy will also be honored with a proclamation at the Durango City Council meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 7 at 5:30 p.m. The meeting may be attended in person at City Hall (limited capacity) or virtually at DurangoGov.org/Zoom.
