The city will be demolishing the building at Mason Center Park, located at 301 East 12th Street, starting Monday, April 26. Demolition and site restoration work will tentatively be complete June 4.
The sidewalk and parking along East 12th Street, adjacent to the Mason Center, will be closed for construction access. The park area and parking along East 4th Avenue and at the Mason Center Park tennis courts will remain open. The play equipment will be closed on Friday, April 30. It will reopen at the end of the day. Please respect all construction fencing and signage.
The project will remove the existing two wings of the building and parking area and stabilize the site with irrigation and sod. The existing gymnasium structure, tennis courts, playground and park area will remain in place.
“The building has deteriorated and is a public safety hazard,” Parks and Recreation Director Cathy Metz said. “The building site will be restored for park uses.”
