Durango-LaPlata County Airport (DRO) is pleased to announce American Airlines will introduce seasonal daily nonstop service between Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Durango beginning June 2021.
“American Airlines’ decision to expand service at the Durango-La Plata County Airport highlights the resilience of our market and the enduring demand for air service in Southwest Colorado,” Aviation Direction Tony Vicari said. “Adding a fourth daily nonstop destination this summer at DRO opens up more choices for our community, improves access for visitors, and will have a strong impact on our regional economy as we continue to recover from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
American will operate one daily nonstop flight between Durango and Los Angeles beginning June 3 through August 16, 2021 on a dual-class 70-seat Bombardier CRJ-700 aircraft. The added service will provide passengers direct access to Los Angeles and Southern California, as well as improved connections up and down the west coast and to Hawaii, Asia and Australia.
“American is pleased to add seasonal service from Los Angeles to Durango in direct response to customer demand,” said Brian Znotins, American’s vice president of network planning. “This route, in addition to our existing service from Durango to Dallas-Ft. Worth and Phoenix, provides customers in the Four Corners region with access to the destinations they want to travel to most. And whether they’re at the airport or in the air, American has taken every effort to ensure customers’ well-being with our Clean Commitment and continued flexibility.”
Seasonal nonstop service to Los Angeles will further enhance diversity of the route network for travelers who utilize DRO. With daily service to a fourth major hub (Los Angeles was the nation’s 2nd busiest airport in 2019 and American Airlines has a large presence there) passengers using DRO will have robust access to domestic and international connections.
"The Los Angeles Basin is a top-five market at DRO. Local residents and visitors alike will benefit from the improved access provided by nonstop flights to Los Angeles,” Vicari said. “American Airlines has been a committed airline partner at DRO for many years, and we are excited to see them expand this service during peak summer travel months.”
In addition to seasonal nonstop Los Angeles service, American Airlines continues to operate daily flights between Durango and both Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) on a year-round basis.
