The city of Durango will conduct its regular biennial council election on April 6. Three council members are to be elected at-large to represent all residents of the city. The top three vote getters from the final field of candidates will be elected to four-year terms beginning April 20. The seats up for election are held by Dean Brookie, Melissa Youssef and Chris Bettin. Mayor Brookie is term limited.
To appear on the April 6 ballot, candidates must submit a nomination petition, which must be circulated for signatures from at least 25 registered electors who live in the city of Durango. Nominating petitions can be obtained at the City Clerk’s office starting Jan. 14. Completed petitions must be returned to the City Clerk no later than 3 p.m. Feb. 9.
In addition to submitting a qualifying nomination petition, a candidate must be:
- A registered elector
- Eighteen years old by April 6 (Election Day)
- A resident of Durango, or a territory recently annexed to Durango, for the 12 consecutive months prior to April 6
