The city of Durango is hosting a clothing drive in honor of the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday, a national day of volunteer service. Community members are invited to drop off clean scarves, hats and socks (new or gently used) and new cloth face coverings at various city facilities Wednesday, Jan. 6 through Friday, Jan. 15.
Drop off bins are located at:
- Durango Community Recreation Center
- Durango Police Department
- Durango Public Library
- Durango City Hall
Clothing items will be distributed on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Monday, Jan. 18, from 9 a.m. to noon at Manna Soup Kitchen.
The King Holiday was designated as a national day of volunteer service by the King Holiday and Service Act of 1994. Community members are encouraged to pay tribute to the life and works of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and strengthen their community by participating in service projects on Monday, Jan. 18 and throughout the year.
