Parks and Recreation News Release image

Due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing social distancing guidelines, the City of Durango will be canceling the following Fourth of July events in order to protect the safety and wellbeing of the community:

  • All American Gourmet Breakfast (Rotary Park)
  • Freedom 5K (Animas River Trail)
  • Independence Day Party (Buckley Park)
  • Stars and Stripes Parade (Main Avenue)
  • Independence Day Street Dance (Transit Center Parking Lot)

The City is coordinating with local agencies and monitoring drought conditions. As of now, the annual fireworks display will launch from Greenmount Cemetery starting at 9:15 p.m. with a new internationally renowned fireworks company. Depending on conditions, adjustments could be made and will be announced closer to the holiday. Citizens will be encouraged to enjoy the display while practicing safe social distancing measures.
