Lodgers' Tax

The city of Durango collects lodgers tax levied on hotel rooms at a rate of 5.25%. This money is then allocated according to the 2021 ballot measure approved by voters: 55% for sustainable tourism marketing, 20% for transportation, 14% for arts/culture and 11% for council discretion.

Arts and Culture

The Lodgers' Tax Arts and Culture program was created after voters approved a 2021 increase in Lodgers’ Tax from 2% to 5.25%, with a portion of the increase dedicated to arts and culture funding The program provides financial support to individuals, non-profits, businesses, and cornerstone arts and culture organizations that contribute to the cultural vitality of the community. Council

City Council receives 11% of the the lodgers' tax collected to use at the council's discretion. For more information contact Kyle Dellamora.

Sustainable Tourism Marketing

Fifty-five percent of money collected by the lodgers' tax is used for sustainable tourism marketing, as required by the 2021 ballot measure passed by voters. The city currently contracts with Visit Durango to oversee the majority of those expenses. From more information contact Rachel Brown.

Transit

Transit receives 20% of lodgers' tax collected which goes into the Transportation fund and is then spent on transit operations, including services, equipment and facilities. It is not spent on parking costs, various cost allocations, or multimodal expenses. For more information contact Sarah Hill.
