Request an Interlibrary loan

Due to COVID-19 and a change in the state Interlibrary Loan software system our Interlibrary Loan service is currently suspended.   For more information, please call 375-3380 or email

Interlibrary Loan allows Durango Public Library card holders to borrow materials we do not own from participating libraries throughout Colorado using the SWIFT system. Books, movies, music CDs, magazine/journal articles, and sheet music are types of items available through Interlibrary Loan.

If you would like to request an item that has been published in the last 12 months please fill out the Suggest a Title for Purchase form.

To register for ILL services, stop by the library and our staff will set-up your account. After initial set-up, your Interlibrary Loan account in  SWIFT  will be available to you from anywhere you have Internet access. You will not need to come to the library to place a request.

Items typically arrive within 7-21 days, though some may take up to   3-6 weeks or longer. When an item is ready for pick up, a notification will be sent to you.

Due to publishing industry regulations, eBooks and other downloadable digital materials cannot be requested through Interlibrary Loan.

Items currently owned by the Durango Public Library cannot be requested through Interlibrary Loan.

Interlibrary Loan  is generally free of cost!  If a lending library charges a fee you will be notified before the request is processed. You will also be notified if an ILL request cannot be filled.

Most books check out for three weeks. Videos and DVDs check out for two weeks.
