Durango Recycles!

Holiday Schedule

The City of Durango offers many recycling services including residential curbside collection as well as commercial and multi-family collection. Also, convenient drop-off sites are located around the area for larger quantities of recyclables, and to serve those without curbside service. There are some important things to know about preparing your recyclables to prevent contamination and ensure that all collected items are, in fact, recycled.

In addition to the services listed above, the City, along with many partners, provides other recycling opportunities for household hazardous waste, electronics, automotive fluids, household batteries, rechargeable batteries, cell phones, yard waste and even Christmas trees! Refer to the City calendar for recycling event dates, and check this website frequently for additional new recycling opportunities.

Why Recycle?

Recycling saves money... saves energy... saves space... and saves natural resources. It's economical, ecological, easy and effective. Communities from coast to coast are recycling because these savings pay off close to home.

Recycling saves resources. Recycling conserves natural resources like forest lands and reduces the need for mining and drilling activities that can disrupt habitats. Recycling also helps save a different kind of resource, the quality of our air and water. Using recycled materials creates less pollution than starting from scratch with raw materials.

Recycling saves energy. Using recycled materials requires far less energy than using raw materials. For example, making a can out of recycled aluminum takes only 5% of the energy needed to make an aluminum can from raw material.

Recycling saves landfill space. Recycling reduces our reliance upon landfills.

Recycling saves money. With waste management costs skyrocketing, recycling makes economic sense because whatever Durango recycles, it doesn't have to pay to bury.
