Residential Curbside Collection

CURBSIDE COLLECTION - How It Works

If you live in a detached or attached (townhome) single family dwelling or duplex, the City of Durango offers curbside collection of:

This service is included free of charge in conjunction with your regular trash collection. You must have an address within the city of Durango in order to receive a recycling bin.

Your blue recycling bin holds three brown paper grocery bags side by side for separation and storage of recyclables.

Townhome complexes may be serviced by larger carts rather than individual bins.

Place the recycling bin (or cart) at least three feet from your trash can next to the curb (away from cars and bushes, please) by 8:00 a.m. of your usual weekly sanitation collection day. Placing the containers out on the morning of collection will help reduce blowing, broken and wet materials.

If your trash is normally picked up in the alley, your recyclables must still be placed at the curbside.

If your household generates more recyclable material in a week than will fit in the bin, you may set it out for collection in your own containers adjacent to the blue bin. The blue bins are our clue to stop at your residence.

Check this Web site, the newspaper, radio or Channel 10 for public service announcements for any changes in the regular collection times due to holidays or other events.

In order to reduce the number of stops by our recycling crew, please set out the bin only when it is reasonably full.

Recycle Bins:

Bins remain the property of the City of Durango and are assigned to each address, so if you move, please leave the bin. Broken bins can be exchanged at the Public Works Department.

To report a stolen bin, call the Durango Police Department. Replacement bins are free of charge with your police report number. A replacement fee of $14.50 will be charged if a police report has not been filed.

The City of Durango also offers other recycling services to multi-family (apartment and condominium) complexes and businesses.
