ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

The general administration of the Police Department is vested in the Chief of Police, the executive officer of the Department, with full authority over the organization.  In day-to-day operations, authority and responsibility are delegated to the various parts of the Police Department via a chain of command. 

The order of authority by rank designation:

Chief of Police
Captain
Lieutenant
Sergeant
Officer

Currently, the Durango Police Department has fifty-three sworn peace officers assigned to either the Administration Division or Operations Division.
