Established in April of 1978, Durango Crime Stoppers was the first Crime Stoppers
organization in Colorado. It was fashioned after a Crime Stoppers organization
in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Crime Stoppers Board of Directors is comprised
of non-law enforcement and law enforcement volunteers who donate approximately
one hour a month to the organization. In addition to conducting official business,
the Board votes on the amounts of rewards to be paid to tipsters who have provided
information resulting in the arrest of suspects. Crime Stoppers members do not
solve crimes. They raise funds from citizens and pay it to informants.
Crime Stoppers is always looking for donations from citizens, businesses,
clubs and organizations.
Many thousands of dollars
in rewards for information leading to the arrest of suspects in large and
small crimes have been paid. Many burglaries, armed robberies, narcotic cases,
homicides, arson cases, thefts and vandalism have been solved because of
concerned citizens calling. Calls to Crime Stoppers are anonymous.
Those interested interested in becoming a member of Crimes Stoppers are
urged to send a brief resume to:
