Solid Waste/Recycling Services

COMMERCIAL AND MULTI-FAMILY RECYCLING

All multi-family complexes with eight or more units are required to provide tenants the opportunity to recycle at least three different materials onsite.

Businesses are eligible for recycling collection if currently receiving City water or sewer service. Small businesses may be eligible for curbside collection, similar to service provided to single-family residences.

There is a charge for the service, but the recycling collection fees are less than one-half the rate charged for refuse collection, so participating businesses, apartments and condominiums should save money on their overall waste disposal costs in addition to benefiting the environment.

Recyclable materials include:

  • mixed paper
  • mixed cans
  • all glass
  • plastic bottles
  • corrugated cardboard

The City provides containers for the collection of recyclables. A separate container is required for each recyclable material being collected. The collection containers may not be stored within public rights-of-way without permission from the City Operations Department, and require 3 feet of clearance on either side and behind the container for our automated collection system to work safely.

  • For paper, cans, plastic bottles and glass, the containers are blue plastic ones similar to those used for garbage, which are picked up with fully-automated equipment.
  • Substantial amounts of shredded paper should be bagged.
  • Corrugated cardboard containers are rectangular metal dumpsters painted blue.
  • Collection within each building is the responsibility of the owner or tenant.

Commercial and multi-family collection schedule:

  • Paper - Mondays and/or Thursdays
  • Cans - Tuesdays
  • Separated Glass - Wednesday
  • Plastic bottles - Friday
  • Corrugated cardboard may be collected up to three times a week - Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
  • For small amounts of corrugated cardboard, customers can call 375-5004 for pickup.

City staff is available to meet with building renters and/or employees for a brief orientation prior to beginning the program in order to review the materials, preparation of recyclables, methods and times of collection. Call 375-5004 to set up an appointment.

City residents living in detached or attached (townhomes) single-family dwellings and duplexes are offered curbside recycling services free of charge in conjunction with regular trash collection.
