Crime Stopper informants can call the non-recorded telephone number, (970) 247-1112, at any time. The caller is issued a number known only to the informant and the person taking the call.

Established in April of 1978, Durango Crime Stoppers was the first Crime Stopper organization in Colorado and the fourth in the United States. It was fashioned after a Crime Stopper organization in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The Crime Stopper Board of Directors is comprised of volunteers who donate approximately one hour a month to the organization. In addition to conducting official business, the Board votes on the amounts of rewards to be paid to tipsters who have provided information resulting in the arrest of suspects. Crime Stopper members do not solve crimes.
