Police Department
Chief SpratlenMessage from the Chief
Welcome to the Durango Police Department website. We are a full-service, community-oriented police agency dedicated to progressive policing concepts. We strive to form and build on community partnerships with all our citizenry, which enables us to provide a safe environment while enhancing our quality of life. Currently, our agency has 55 sworn officers and 10 civilian staff members. We also encourage civilian volunteers, of which the department has several.

We are very proud that we are state-accredited through the Colorado Association of Chiefs of Police. We have been accredited since 1990. This recognition means that the department’s policies, procedures, and operations meet state and national guidelines and standards for best practices in law enforcement agencies.

Our department is committed to providing excellent law enforcement services to the Durango community. We fully embrace the community policing concepts and philosophies of today’s 21st century law enforcement professionals. We know that our success directly relates to good communication and cooperation between our department and our citizens.

We hope you enjoy your visit to our website.

Jim Spratlen
