Due to the Lightner Creek Fire and extreme fire conditions, the 4th of July Fireworks display has been cancelled. We have received the fireworks, so we will look to put on a show at a date to be determined later this year, or early next year. All other 4th of July events are moving forward as planned! 

Parade information:


Spirit of Electra Lake won Best in Show and The DOA Club is Runner Up. 

Would you like to have a float in the 4th of July Parade?!

Please fill out the Parade Entry Form and return it to the Parks and Recreation Administrative Offices at the Durango Recreation Center (2700 North Main Ave, 81301). 

Cost to enter a float in the Parade: $5

Glory of winning the cash prize and bragging rights as the most patriotic float: PRICELESS!

Street and Parking Closure Information:

Main Avenue from 10th to 12th Street, and 11th Street from Narrow Gauge to the alley in the E 100 block of 11th Street:  12:30 pm – 12:30 am.

500 Block of Main and 5th Street from Main to 3rd Avenue: 4:00 pm – 6:30 pm.

Parade Route (College to 12th Street on Main Avenue), East 100 Block of 12th Street: 5:45 pm – 7:00 pm.

Parking Information:

  • Do not park in any private lots, including the Town Plaza Parking lot or the Albertson's Parking lot.
  • All City of Durango Parking Lots (Transit Center, 2nd Avenue, Etc) will be free to park in on July 4th
  • Please consider using the Durango Transit and the Main Avenue Trolley.  Additional Parking may be found at the La Plata County Fairgrounds and the Durango Recreation Center.  Trolley stops are close by and will be dropping riders off at the Transit Center.  For more information on Durango Transit, please go here: http://durangogov.org/transit
  • Please be mindful of “No Parking” signs on parking meters as vehicles inside the closure areas at the time of the parking closure will be ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense.
