Commercial & Residential Multi-Family Complexes
Requirements
Commercial and residential multi-family complexes with eight or more units are required to provide tenants with the opportunity to recycle single stream materials and mixed glass.

The City collects the following items in its recycling program:
  • Corrugated cardboard
  • Mixed metals
  • Mixed paper
  •  Mixed glass is collected separately. Glass can also be dropped off for free at the Durango Recycle Center 24/7 with no proof of residency. Please do not place glass in your single stream container.

Collection Containers
The City provides collection containers to commercial and residential multi-family complexes.
A separate container is required for glass and large amounts of corrugated cardboard. All other recyclable products can be combined in one blue single stream container.

Make sure tenants know what can and cannot be recycled - post single stream recycling guidelines somewhere visible.

Collection containers may not be stored within public rights of way without permission from the City Operations Department, and require 3 feet of clearance on either side and behind the container for our automated collection system to work safely.

Orientation & Rates
City staff is available to meet with property managers, renters, and/or tenants for a brief orientation prior to beginning an on-site recycling program in order to review the list of acceptable materialsguidelines for participating in the program, and collection schedules and times. Please call (970) 375-5004 to set up an appointment.

City residents living in detached or attached (townhomes) single-family dwellings and duplexes are offered curbside recycling services in conjunction with regular trash collection.
