School Programs
Available Programs
The Durango Police Department is very active in all of our District 9R schools. The Police Department deploys four school resource officers that take care of the Durango High School, Miller Middle School, Needham Elementary, Riverview Elementary, and Park Elementary. These officers teach in the classroom and are on campus to assist with security needs. These officers offer open lines of communication between the Durango Police Department, students, and 9R staff. These officers are also deeply involved in the Community Programs Unit and they oversee the following programs.

Safetytown is a nine-day program which begins at the conclusion of School District 9-R’s school year and is for children between the ages of five and seven years of age. The program teaches various subjects which include some of the following: 
  • Animal Safety
  • Bicycle Safety
  • Bus Safety
  • Gun Safety
  • Electrical Safety
  • Pedestrian Safety
  • Poison Safety
  • Railroad Safety
  • Stranger Danger
  • Water Safety
