Sustainability Program
The Sustainability Division provides analysis, coordination, and management of programs and events designed to enhance the City’s energy efficiency and waste reduction efforts, and serves as point of contact for the community on the City's recycling program and sustainability initiatives. The Division organizes the biannual household hazardous waste collection event and other community sustainability events and activities in addition to providing technical assistance to the Recycling and Solid Waste Programs.

Leading by Example
The City serves as a community leader by conducting its operations in a manner that promotes economic vitality, social equality, and environmental stewardship to enhance the quality of life for the citizens of our community for present and future generations. In 2016 the City of Durango became a STAR Reporting Community and throughout 2017 we will be working with local people and organizations to achieve STAR Certification.

Recycling and Waste Reduction
Did you know that every person in the United States generates almost five pounds of solid waste every day? Do your part to keep waste out of the landfill by reducing your waste by recycling and being conscious of your purchasing.

Recycling is a great way to reduce the amount of waste you send to the landfill. Consider signing up for the City’s Residential Curbside Recycling Program.

Not a City resident? Drop-off your recyclable items at the City’s Recycling Center.
