Building Codes
Construction of a building with only the foundation and rebar started.2015 International Building Codes
Adopted January 1, 2018
The purpose of building codes is to provide minimum construction standards to safeguard life, limb, health, property, and public welfare by providing minimum design and construction standards, quality of materials, use and occupancy, location and maintenance of all buildings and structures within the city limits of Durango.

Energy Codes
In December 2017, the City Council approved the adoption of the 2015 ICC Energy Codes. In order to provide the local construction industry with adequate time to prepare for the necessary changes, these codes will not go into affect until October 1st, 2018. Building permit submittals to the City of Durango may reflect the specifications required by the existing 2009 Energy Code up until this date.

The City will be hosting an informational seminar on the energy code changes on May 15th at the Durango Recreation Center. This seminar will take place from 8:30-4:30, covering residential applications in the morning and commercial applications in the afternoon. All local contractors are encouraged to attend.
