Pumpkin Drop-off
In 2017 the City of Durango partnered with the CSU Extension Office and Bear Smart Durango to offer free pumpkin drop-off on the Friday and Saturday after Halloween.

A total of 405 pumpkins were collected at two locations and donated to local farmers and ranchers to be used as animal feed.

The drop-off event provides a responsible alternative to leaving squash on the porch as a bear attractant or tossing them in the trash.

Quote from a local hog farmer who received pumpkins donated at the City of Durango Three Springs Police Substation:
"I think our little farm is well poised to grow with this... campaign at Three Springs in particular... It's a convenient location and it really helps me sustain a rare hog species in a responsible manner."
