Cemetery Guidelines
Burial spaces are limited to one full burial, except in the case of a mother and her infant child. Spaces can accommodate as many sets of cremations as names can be engraved on one headstone. Only one headstone is permitted per grave space.
Infant or baby graves are restricted to caskets not over three feet in length. All larger caskets are to be interred in adult spaces. All outside liners shall be of non-destructive material, except for infant or welfare burials. Cremations must be contained within the urn provided by the crematorium. An outer vault is not required, but may be used.
Arrangement for burials may be made directly through cemetery staff or any mortuary. Burials on Sunday and national holidays are not allowed except upon special permit and with an additional fee. Before interment, a deed must be presented to the Cemetery Sexton to validate ownership of the burial space.
All graves will be seeded level. Seeding will take place as soon as warm weather permits. Perpetual care is provided by the City cemetery staff which includes mowing, watering and pruning of trees.
Headstones and monuments made of granite, marble or bronze are permitted. Iron, plaster of paris, sandstone, cement or compositions are prohibited. All headstones must have a cement or marble base extending a minimum of 5 inches beyond the headstone and be 4 inches in depth. All headstones are the responsibility of the owner.
Thornless flowers in non-glass vases may be placed at a grave. Any plantings must be to the side of the headstone. Cemetery staff must be notified of the species before planting. A small American flag may be displayed during customary holidays. After three days the flag may be removed by the sexton and disposed of.
Items not allowed to be placed at grave spaces include:
These items will be removed without notice.
Cemetery cleanup will take place twice a year beginning on the first of March in preparation for Memorial weekend. Thirty days after Memorial weekend, the cemetery staff will begin removing unsightly objects from grave spaces. The second cleanup will be in fall to prepare for winter. Items picked up by cemetery staff will be disposed of. Individuals must remove anything they wish to keep before the cleanup begins.
Jogging and walking dogs on the cemetery grounds is prohibited.
