INSPECTIONS
NOTE: 24-HOUR ADVANCE NOTIFICATION IS REQUIRED FOR ALL INSPECTIONS
Footing - Stem Wall - Foundation
To be made after all excavations and trenches are completed and all forms and reinforcing
steel are in place, prior to scheduling of concrete delivery. (This does not mean calling for
inspection to say what time you are pouring concrete.)
Framing
To be made after the roof, all framing, fire blocking, exterior sheeting, and bracing are in
place; all chimneys, vents, etc., are complete; and the rough plumbing, heating, and electrical
are complete.
Plumbing - Rough
Rough plumbing must be installed and tested with water or air, in accordance
with the International Plumbing Code, and observed by the building official.
Gas piping is included in rough plumbing inspections.
Mechanical - Rough
All vents, rough-in ductwork, draft stops, etc., should be completed in accordance
with the International Mechanical Code.
Drywall Fire
Resistive
Drywall should be complete and screwed or nailed in accordance with the International
Building Code (IBC), Chapter 25 and International Residential
Code (IRC) R317 Chapter 3 . Taping and texturing
may occur after inspection.
Finished Building - Certificate of Occupancy - Final Inspection
The final inspection should occur when the building is completed, the electrical,
water, sewer, heating, and cooling have been tested, and any troubleshooting
has been taken care of by the installer. Inspections shall include:
1 - Acceptance of the water meter installation by the Water Department
2 - Acceptance of the backflow prevention device by the Water Department
3 - Acceptance of the public imposements (typically sidewalks and driveways
but may be much more) by Public Works
The final inspection will not be made before the State electrical inspector has signed off on
the electrical permit and the blue inspection card.
