Plumbing Permits

Plumbing permits required for the following work:

• addition, replacement, or repair of water systems
• addition, replacement, or repair of sewage systems
• water service lines
• drains
• water mains
• sewage disposal systems
• gas service

A plumbing permit shall not be required for the stoppage of leaks where it is not necessary to replace the whole plumbing or water supply system.

Homeowners may obtain plumbing permits for their own primary place of residence. If a person other than the homeowner obtains a plumbing permit, that individual must have a valid Colorado plumber's license, a City of Durango plumber's bond, and a City of Durango business license.

Plumbing permit fees are based on 1/2% of the total value of work requiring a building permit, or based on the actual cost of the work if building permit is not needed, plus use tax.  Estimate Fees

In most cases, applications are not necessary.  In cases where the proposed plumbing work is extensive and is not related to an open building permit, please submit a plumbing permit application and 2 sets of plans for review.  For more information, please call the Building Department at 375-4850.

Once the work is complete, you can request an inspection.
