PROJECT SPOTLIGHT: Arts & Economic Prosperity 5
The National Endowment for the Arts conducted an Arts and Economic Prosperity Study in the City of Durango. The results were outstanding! In 2015, non-profit and public arts and cultural organizations contributed over $18 million to the local economy. Twenty-six of the eligible 34 non-profit arts and cultural organizations participated in this study and a total of 556 audience surveys were completed. Durango consistently performed better than other cities of a similar sizes. The study collected data about direct expenditures in Durango by the organizations and by their audiences and also calculated the indirect impacts on jobs, taxes and income. Community Development Staff will provide a presentation on the Arts & Economic Prosperity Study at the August 22, 2017 City Council Study Session.
