Large Crane alert! 

As part of the construction process of the Santa Rita Water Reclamation Facility, a large crane is slated to arrive the week of August 7th. It’s maximum height is approx. 210 feet. Though the appearance of a large crane may be visually intriguing, drivers passing by are encouraged to practice safe driving habits. Watch the live cam at

Rec Center

Recreation Center to Close for Annual Maintenance 

The Durango Community Recreation Center will be closed Saturday, August 19 – Saturday, August 26 for annual repairs and maintenance of the building, reopening at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 27. NOTE: Certain areas of the Rec Center have different closure times. Please read the full release here.
Arts and Economic Prosperity Study

City of Durango Arts and Economic Prosperity 5 Study Results are in! 

Non-profit and public arts and cultural organizations were directly responsible for $18.1 million in economic activity in 2015. The City of Durango, Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis, Durango Arts Center, Durango Chorale Society and STEAM Park funded the report. Learn more here


Let's talk about homelessness.

Join the City of Durango for a screening of the award winning documentary "Signs of Humanity" with guest Willie Baronet, filmmaker, artist and founder of the WE ARE ALL HOMELESS Impact Campaign.  Documentary screenings and Q&A with the filmmaker will be Thursday August 10, 3-5pm and 6:30-8:30pm at the Animas City Theatre.

A public art exhibit will be at the Durango Transit Center from Tuesday August 8 thru Monday, September 4. The artist reception is scheduled for Tuesday, August 8, 6-7pm.

Bikes and Peds

Calling all volunteers! 

Every other year the City of Durango performs bicycle and pedestrian counts as part of the National Bicycle and Pedestrian Documentation Project. This year, the counts will be undertaken with volunteers from September 11 to 17. This City is seeking a total of 99 2-hour volunteers spots at 11 in-town locations. Sign up for one of the 2-hour shifts and receive an appreciation gift! Click here to choose a location and sign up.

Did You Know? 

The City bought itself a push lawnmower in 1907!

A motion in a Council meeting on 8/6/1907 to purchase a 1-horse power lawnmower failed, but Council approved the purchase of a hand [human-powered] lawn mower.
