Mulch Giveaway

Mulch Giveaway is Tomorrow!  


The City of Durango will be giving away free mulch until it is gone on Friday, June 9th and possibly Saturday, June 10th on a first come-first served basis. Material may be hand loaded by residents. In addition, the City will have a loader to help load mulch into personal vehicles and trailers from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. each day. It is likely that the mulch may not last until Saturday, June 10th. The mulch pile is located at the old Van-Dal Landfill site and can be reached by continuing past the upper end of Tech -Center Drive. Mulched material is mixed and consists of chipped residential tree trimmings from spring and fall cleanup as well as Christmas Trees. For more information please call 375-4839.

Community Forum on Monday


On Monday, June 12 at the Durango Public Library (1900 E 3rd Ave), from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. the City of Durango Community Development Department will host a community forum to discuss a possible text amendment to the Land Use Development Code related to the separation between marijuana businesses and sensitive properties.  Click here to learn more.

Adaptive Softball Dream League Starts Soon!


The Dream League’s coed adaptive slow pitch softball program is designed to remove barriers for participants, ages 10 through adult, with disabilities that want to play America’s greatest pastime! A volunteer meeting is scheduled for June 28th. Click here to learn more.

Clean Commute Week is Coming! 


Join the City of Durango for the 8th annual Clean Commute Week June 24 - 30. The week features many events including micro-bike tunes at the Farmers Market, the Paul Wilbert Memorial Passeggiata, a Community Forum, the Pedal vs. Metal Challenge, Bike to Work Day, the Love Your Commute Celebration and Awards, a Business Commuter Challenge and Free Transit Days all week. Click here to learn more! 

Zoo

Did You Know? 


At its regular meeting on June 7, 1934, Durango’s City Council discussed the fact that donations for upkeep of the Durango Zoo had fallen behind and that it was doubtful that the zoo could continue. Council instructed the City Manager to wire to Salt Lake City and find out if they would take most of the animals off the City’s hands.
