Pair of City fire horses and Kephart fire engine

Did you know?

The City was switching from horsepower to motor power for its fire truck, a century ago. This week 100 years ago, at its meeting on February 8, 1916, City Council decided not to renew the insurance policy covering the two fire horses against loss by death caused by disease or accident, because "the horses were soon to be replaced by a motor drawn fire apparatus." Read about it in the actual minutes online by going to the City’s Documents Search Page and doing a Search by Document Type.  Select Minutes, Meeting Type: City Council Regular Meeting, meeting date: 2/8/1916, and click to search.
