The City of Durango is pleased to present the 10th annual Clean Commute Week from June 22 to 27. Clean Commute Week is a celebration of walking, rolling, biking, riding the bus and carpooling around Durango. In addition to your favorite events including Bike to Work Day, the Love Your Commute Celebration, and the Pedal vs. Metal Challenge, community partners will be hosting several group rides to celebrate a decade of Clean Commute Week.
Following is a schedule of events during Clean Commute Week:
Business Commuter Challenge, June 19-June 26: Local businesses compete to see who can bike, walk, bus, roll or carpool more than any other organization in their size category. Participants earn points for each sustainable trip taken from Wednesday, June 19 through Wednesday, June 26. Winners are announced at the Love Your Commute Celebration at Ska Brewing on Thursday, June 27. Farmers Market, Saturday, June 22 from 8AM-noon, TBK Bank Parking Lot, 259 W 9th St: Visit the Clean Commute Week booth at the Durango Farmers Market. Bring your bicycle for FREE safety checks by Animas Cycles, FREE bike registration, and pick up your Clean Commute Week passport for a chance to win prizes throughout the week!
Skirts Only Ride and Run, Saturday, June 22 at noon, Rochester Hotel, 726 E. 2nd Ave: Meet at the Rochester Hotel for your choice of a group road bike ride or road run. Wear your favorite skirt, tutu, or kilt! The ride and run will end at the Rochester Secret Garden around 1 pm and participants will be given 1 free drink ticket, donated by the Rochester Hotel.
Sunday Funday, Sunday, June 23 from 8-9AM, Rotary Park: Stop by this fun breakfast station on your way to church or worship, hosted by community members. For more information, contact organizer Mark Lambert at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Paul Wilbert Memorial Passeggiata, Monday, June 24 at 4:30PM, Buckley Park, 1200 Main Ave: We are honored to bring back the annual Paul Wilbert Memorial Passeggiata in loving memory of our dear friend and community visionary Paul Wilbert. The Passeggiata, a slow bike ride down Main Avenue, will depart Buckley Park at 4:30PM and end at Carver Brewing Co. for the Community Forum and Commuter Fashion Show.
Community Forum and Commuter Fashion Show, Monday, June 24 from 5-7PM, Carver Brewing Co., 1022 Main Ave: Animas Trading Company is hosting the crowd favorite Commuter Fashion show. Models hit the runway at 5:30PM, so don’t miss the opportunity to cheer on Durango’s most fabulous commuters! The fashion show will be followed by a Community Forum, where you’ll have the opportunity to get updates on some of Durango’s most exciting transportation projects! Carver Brewing Co. is generously offering one drink per person!
Pedal vs. Metal Challenge, Tuesday, June 25 from Noon-1PM, Backcountry Experience, 1205 Camino del Rio: Back by popular demand, the Pedal vs. Metal Challenge is a race against time and a variety of competitors. Participants compete in a scavenger hunt around Durango by whatever legal transportation mode they desire. Competitors will be on bikes, on motorcycles, in cars and on foot. Meet at Backcountry Experience at noon to receive your mission and claim your prize.
Bike to Work Day, Wednesday, June 26 from 7-9AM, Hermosa Roasters 738 Main Ave, and Mercy Regional Medical Center, 1010 Three Springs Blvd: On Bike to Work Day, stop by one of two stations in front of Hermosa Roasters or at Mercy Hospital to celebrate clean commuting and pick up your FREE t-shirt, free bike safety checks by Pedal the Peaks, snacks from Clif Bar, breakfast goodies from bread, and more! Live music by Robby Overfield! Enter to win fabulous raffle prizes from local sponsors!
Happy Trails Mountain Bike Ride, Wednesday 26 at 5PM, location TBD: Join Trails 2000 for a group mountain bike ride. This is another fun opportunity to celebrate all the awesome ways to get around Durango!
Bike Parade to Ska, Thursday, June 27 at 4:30PM, 2nd Ave Sports 640 E 2nd Ave: Meet at 2nd Ave Sports to join the Bike Parade and arrive at the Love Your Commute Celebration at Ska in style! Costumes encouraged.
Love Your Commute Celebration, Thursday, June 27 from 5-7PM, Ska Brewing Co., 225 Girard St: The Love Your Commute Celebration is the culmination of Clean Commute Week festivities. Come to the awards ceremony to find out the winners of the Business Commuter Challenge and the Commuter of the Year! The Durango Running Club is generously offering one drink per person and free food, first-come, first-served. Enjoy live music and fun prizes!
