Weed Abatement Scheduled on City Property

The City of Durango promotes Best Management Practices in the stewardship of City lands to ensure the safe enjoyment of parks and open spaces in the community. The City has contracted with Horizon Environmental Services for noxious weed abatement. The herbicides that will be used are: Milestone, 2-4 D Amine, QuinStar, Panoramic 2 SL and Sureguard SC depending on noxious weed species. Applications are conducted to improve the quality of the right-of-ways, parks and open spaces in the City’s system. The weed control is repeatedly tested and approved by the Environmental Protection Agency and Horizon Environmental Services is licensed by the Colorado Department of Agriculture.   

Spraying will commence on Monday, May 20, 2019 and continue through Friday, May 31.  Areas that will be treated for noxious weeds are: Cundiff Park, City Open Space in the 200 Block area of Parker Avenue, City Open Space adjacent the Animas River Trail, the median at 8th Street and 8th Avenue, the median at Santa Rita Drive and 8th Street, medians along West Frontage Road, E 3rd Avenue and 20th Street parking area, Florida Road hard surface trail, and Chapman Hill. Follow up spot spraying at the treated areas will continue through the month of June.
